What it is a Healing Arts Intensive?

A Healing Arts Intensive is a group expressive arts therapeutic process based in the Life Force Arts Method and built around a performance by Life Force Arts Ensemble.

Life Force Arts Method (LFAM) - a modern version of universal wisdom teachings that value true self and creative community. It is based in 4 Skills that give us the wisdom to deal with the basic issues of human life.

Transformational Goal - Each participant focuses on a personal Transformational Goal (Intention) that they want to see fulfilled by the end of the Intensive

Artmaking - Creating and observing interdisciplinary arts - visual art, writing, dance, theater, music, storytelling -  is the activity that enables each participant to actualize their Transformation Goal

Life Force Arts Ensemble performance - Each Intensive is built around a performance of Life Force Arts Ensemble which Intensive participants attend. The Ensemble creates a healing ritual through the arts based in the artwork of the current exhibit and including live music, dance and theater, sound healing, storytelling and an opportunity for the audience to meditate on their Transformational Goals

The Format

~ Each Healing Arts Intensive has a Group of three to twelve participants guided by a Facilitator

~There are five sessions, usually meeting once per week for five weeks. The sessions are 3 hours each

~The sessions are:
1) Orientation
2) Artmaking
3) Concepts & Writing
4) Life Force Arts Ensemble performance
5) Closure

~Between the sessions, participants are guided in designing their own individual self-reflective and artistic practices as part of the process of accomplishing their Transformational Goal

Intro to LFA Voice & Movement Training

Thursday, November 14, 7:30 PM » 9:30 PM

Find your full voice and presence! Life Force Arts Voice & Movement Training is based in the Life Force Arts Method, a modern version of universal wisdom teachings that value true self and creative community. The training focuses on the connection of voice, body movement and the human energy field for a more empowered and expressive you, whether for personal growth and healing; for singers, dancers or actors taking their technique to a new level; or healers adding sound healing to their practice. Created by shamanic practitioner Joan Forest Mage, LFA Voice & Movement Training can be used for:

  • Personal growth and healing: find new ways of personal empowerment and expression for relating to your most inner world to the outer world
  • Singers, dancers & actors: find your full expressive range in voice and movement; break through performance blocks; connect to spiritual energy to empower your performance and shapeshift into characters
  • Healers (energy workers, therapists): add sound healing to the tools you offer in your sessions; use sound healing and movement for self-care

Principles of LFA Voice & Movement Training

  • Energy Field & Chakras - directing the energy in and around the body; initiating voice & movement from the 7 energy centers of the body
  • Dimensions -  finding full range (height, width, depth) in voice & movement
  • Dynamics –  qualities of voice & movement like the elements: Water, Earth, Fire, Air & Space
  • 4 Skills (Life Force Arts Method) - 4 Skills of working with energy from your most inner world to the most outer world; how you relate with voice & movement to self, society, nature and the spirit realm

LFA Voice & Movement  (Intro)

In this 4 week class, we will learn simple yet powerful exercises to gain greater understanding of the connection of our voices, movement and energy field. In a friendly and accepting atmosphere, you are invited to: learn to sing and speak from each of your chakras, practice grounding and presence of voice and body, and how to use your voice for energy healing. Each participant goes at their own pace in the exercises: this is about discovering the possibilities in YOUR voice and movement.

J-Lynn, Kat Kidwell and Brad Herwy in concert

Saturday, November 16, 8:00 PM

Come for the inspiration of three spirits, playing both toghter and solo, whose band began last year for one bar gig down the street. Leave with new thoughts about your world. J-Lynn, with these two as backup, often draws in the crowd at Elbo Room for pop-punk anthems of strength, heartache, queerness and justice. Brad Herwy of string band The Devils Let Us absorbs the haunting tones of the forest and releases these through drumming, cello and mandolin. Kat Kidwell, booted from a major musicians’ society at 17, turned to create extradimensional psychedelic folk-punk band The Raging Clovers to spread stories of magic, self-discovery, sexual anarchy, and the secrets of dragons and wolves. Bring an art project to work on, if you’d like, and let the songs, angst and reflections wrap their roots around your soul.

Suggested admission: $15

Painting The Wheel of the Year: Wheel Template 3 & 4 with Colleen Koziara

Sunday, November 17, 2:00 PM » 7:00 PM

NOTE: This is a double session, covering the material in sessions 3 and 4, so class will be 2 - 7 PM

The Wheel of the Year. Time, not linear but circular. Round and round we go, and have always gone. Since the beginning of time, humans, of every faith and culture, have found time best tracked in circles. Humans have created stone circles aligned with the seasons for at least 200,000 years. Everything in life falls comfortably somewhere upon the spokes of the wheel of time. The times of day, the seasons, the astrological calendar, the trees and symbols of the Ogham, Alchemy, Festivals, ages of human life, the colors, musical notes, emotions, tides. All of time, all of creation.

This is what we will explore in this year-long series of painting classes held once a month.  Eight of our sessions will focus on the seasonal festival: Imbolc, Ostara, Beltaine, Summer Solstice, Lughnassadh, Mabon, Samhain and Yule. For these sessions, we will create acrylic on canvas paintings.

Four of our sessions will focus on the Wheel of the Year Template as a whole. In these sessions, each participant will use ink pens, markers, paint, and/or collage on acetate sheets to create a multi-layered depiction of a personalized Wheel meaningful to their own life path.

Our theme for November 17: Wheel Template 3 & 4
Session 3 & 4 of 4 on the Template of the Wheel. Here we will continue our creation of a multilayered clear acetate diagram that symbolizes exactly what layers and correspondences we personally feel are best included in our personal representation of the passing of a year in our own life. We will review and consider the wheels created from cultures and traditions around the world and across all the ages of time, and then we will design and create our own personal Wheel of the Year.

All materials will be supplied and no previous experience is necessary.  The class will begin with a smudging and guided meditation, and continue on with the painting session. Each session will include a central space arrangement of items that speak to the season and the spoke upon the wheel that is our focus for that session.

Additionally, each student will be provided with a computer file, and a link to a YouTube Playlist that features a wide variety of supportive documentation on The Wheel as it appears in its many varied forms and focuses: images of Circles, Mandalas and Wheels of the Year from a wide variety of cultures and locations as well as stories and legends from around the world to be used as reference material for their study.

Pre-registration is required due to material and supply orders that must be placed.

NOTE: This is a double session, covering the material in sessions 3 and 4, so class will be 2 - 7 PM

A Reiki Master and Ovate member of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids, she has been presenting, writing and providing art for Circle Sanctuary since 2002, and designed the Pagan Spirit Gathering logos for 2010-2018.
