Why We Create

Tags:

And this is why we create,
trying to show the velvet feel of the young gourd leaf
to the cat who totally mistakes our intentions.
And we return to watching the growing leather leafed gourd plants
as they take over the garage, making an African lake
out of the roof, where any minute a hippo
will float upward from the dark interior,
flapping little ears on a gigantic head.
The same plants spent weeks on the chain fence:
one tendrilled finger godding toward
another Adamed one until both touch
and the triangles become a bow finally tied.
The three foot gourds come later.
The mushrooms are welcoming us home
singly in the corners of front yards
or by the hundreds under trees.
They are our cycling moongods on earth.
We can touch them, find out the dark side
Is just soft folds perhaps where the seeds are hidden:
They spring up overnight.
