Lughnasad Block Party

The sun did not shine.
But Hector the long handed
lit the charcoal fire
and we warmed our hands
like the ancient ones.
The august 1955 engine no. 109
across the street, blew its horn,
lifted its ladder
coaxing Lugh-light from the sky,
While the children climbed
and rode their big wheels in supplication.
We drank Monty Python Holy Grail Ale
and listened to the hot pepper salsa,
while the tomatoes heated our table.
The tents elevated with the wind.
Muslim women stonehenged the band
doing sound checks:
"Oye como va" and "quando caliente el sol"
Nastrovya, shouted the neighbors
bringing kielbasa and "Ococim" beer.
The harvest begins.
