Clear Your Clutter

You know the saying “Less is More"?  Well, we Americans don’t tend to think that’s true. We’re a people whose motto could be “More! Bigger! Better!!!”  We believe in expanding, super-sizing, upgrading.  It’s all about looking good, having more, and keeping up with the Joneses. Our culture has so thoroughly bought into the materialism and expansionism values that it’s hard to wriggle free.

Well, what if sometimes less really could be more? One example is successfully dieting when you are overweight. You eat less and lose weight. But you get so much more. Your self-esteem skyrockets, your energy levels increase, and your health improves.

Reprioritizing spending can also serve you well, as financial experts can tell you. You become mindful of the loose change you fritter away on designer coffees or the many dollars you spend chasing fast cars, an impressive home, or trendy clothes.  You then redirect some of it into long-term investment accounts where, through the miracle of compounding interest, your savings multiply and you end up with much more money than you ever dreamed possible!

Clutter clearing follows suit. Why would you ever bother to sort through your belongings to see which of them you might successfully release, discard, give away?!!  What about “those with the most toys win"?

Well, it’s funny but you wouldn’t believe how happy people can get when they tote off large sacks of rarely worn clothing, never used appliances, and outdated magazines to thrift stores or charities. It’s as if they’ve been set free. People instinctively know that when they let go of what they no longer need, use, or love, good things can and do happen within them and around them. Taking the step and actually following through with letting go opens the door to set those events in motion.

Clutter clearing gets your life moving
Useless junk creates congestion in the flow of energy in one’s home and a corresponding adverse effect on one’s life. Releasing clutter can make things begin to flow again and bring new opportunities to you. Don’t be surprised if new things come your way as a result. Many people report remarkable changes in a very short space of time.

Clutter clearing brings more clarity
Clutter can make you feel overwhelmed. Releasing it can enhance your clarity. There’s a kind of sharpness into which you ascend when things are handled. Cleaning up your surroundings and getting up to date with bills, taxes, and correspondence allows you to relax and feel on top of the world. When you’re organized, you feel ready to zealously tackle the new stuff that comes along and to finally launch the projects and dreams that have been on the shelf for years. It’s a major confidence booster.

Clutter clearing can help with weight loss
Speaking of confidence, a fabulous way to enhance yours is to achieve that optimal weight you’ve been dreaming about for years. If that accomplishment has always eluded you, you might enjoy hearing that people who clutter-clear the excess baggage from their homes often find themselves dropping excess weight from their bodies too. There is a strong correlation between padding out your home with clutter and padding out your body with self-protective layers of fat. Once their home feels clear, many people find they want their bodies to feel that way as well.

Clutter clearing can bring more meaning to your life
When people make significant changes in their lives, they often find themselves attracting friends who are more compatible with present interests and lifestyle and seeing a new depth enter their spiritual lives as well. It’s true. I’ve often seen clutter clearing usher in completely fresh periods in people’s lives. Focus changes from shuffling stuff, killing time watching TV, wasting time, or partying into oblivion to engaging in much more meaningful pursuits. Simply put, as you clutter-clear, you start to want more richness and meaning in your life. As a result you often end up seeking out relationships with greater depth and begin asking the deeper spiritual questions like, “Why am I here?” and, “What am I supposed to be DOING with my life?” When that begins, you can kiss your old life goodbye. Expect surprises!

Clutter clearing changes your relationship with your home
And lastly, on a more mundane level, when you clear your house of useless junk, streamline the place, and make your home lovely, you simply adore coming home! Clutter clearing makes you happier to be alive and makes you really enjoy the place you lay your head at night. Clutter tends to make people depressed, and eliminating it gives you a head start in banishing the blues. In addition, because you feel so good about your home once you’ve worked so hard to get things in order and up to snuff, you lose the embarrassment about how awful your home once looked and find yourself happy to be there and eager to share the place with family and friends. Clutter clearing brings joy where once there was tiredness, embarrassment, and depression.
