Volunteering at Life Force Arts
As a volunteer, you will be contributing to LFAC's good work promoting the arts and spirituality, plus having the opportunity to study with some of the finest teachers of spiritual work and enjoy amazing performances and exhibits.
LFAC is a non-profit, tax exempt 501 (c) 3 organization. Our staff is composed almost completely of volunteers. It is only with the help of people like you that LFAC can grow and become even more successful in fulfilling our mission of providing art and spirituality to the community.
We need volunteers with many types of skills. Volunteer Program
Life Force Arts Center is extremely grateful to all our Volunteers who keep our Center running smoothly. Most of our staff is volunteer, and they take care of many tasks, including bookkeeping, marketing, graphic design, event hosting, sales, administrative, receptionist and housekeeping work. Whatever your skills, we have a place for you as a volunteer!
How the Program Works
Volunteers must work a minimum of 4 hours in a calendar month to be eligible for Volunteer Benefits. Volunteers keep a time sheet to document the days and hours they work.
Volunteers who work between 4 – 16 hours in a month may claim their Volunteer Benefits during the months they are volunteering, and for up to three months after the last month they volunteered.
Volunteers who work more than 16 hours in a month may claim their Volunteer Benefits during the months they are volunteering, and for up to a year after the last month they volunteered.
Benefits of Volunteering (as of April 1, 2013)
Volunteers at Life Force Arts Center receive the following benefits in exchange for their work:
- 50% discount on tuition/admission for LFA sponsored events. Please check with Joan Forest Mage to determine which events are LFA sponsored events.
- Free admission to events where they work as the Event Manager. (Event Managers have the key to open and close the space and are in charge of hosting the event.)
- Invitation to LFA's Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party

Positions Currently Available
Event StaffEvent Staffers assist with the numerous events hosted at LFAC. You can sign up to work events as your schedule allows.Duties include:
- arrive in advance of the event to set up the room according to the requirements of that particular event. Please ask Joan or other LFAC administrator about the room set up for that event. This may include, as necessary, such tasks as: putting out chairs and tables, loading in musical instruments, re-focus track lights, setting up refreshment table, helping presenter set up decorations, etc.
- answer the phone
- greet the attendees at the door
- check in attendees on the pre-paid attendance sheet
- collect money and write receipts for attendance or purchases
- direct attendees to coat rack, bathroom, water cooler, etc.
- housekeeping during and after event (as necessary): empty trash throughout event; replenish toilet paper and paper towels in bathroom, etc.
- watch door during event for latecomers (if necessary)
- clean up at end of event - this may include such tasks as: putting away chairs and tables, loading out musical instruments, re-focusing track lights, cleaning up refreshment table, helping presenter take down decorations, etc.
Flyering

Sales Associate
The Sales Associate position includes such duties as answering the phone, greeting visitors, registering participants for workshops and events, selling items in our Gallery, and light housekeeping (sweeping floors, dusting, etc.) and other projects that may be assigned, as you are willing and able to complete them. Housekeeping
The Housekeeping position includes such duties as sweeping and mopping all the floors, cleaning the bathroom, washing the dishes, taking out garbage, etc. The best hours for Housekeeping are Mondays & Thursdays between 1:30 - 6:30 PM. Social Media Representative
Volunteer(s) needed to publicize Life Force Arts Center through social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) Post events, connect with fans of our page, and help us develop a social media presence coordinated with our other publicity and marketing efforts. Must work closely with LFAC's staff to know the events to publicize and to understand the mission of LFAC.You can do this from your own home computer or ours.
Online Events Posting
We need many volunteers to post our events on websites and online publications, including the Reader Newspaper, Time Out Chicago, Chicago Artists Resource, Reverbnation, Mindful Metropolis, Craigslist and many other possible sites that have events listings. You can do this from your own computer, you do not have to come to LFAC to do this job! Each volunteer for this job posts events on one publication/website. We will train you how to post on the publication or website you will be posting to, and give you the list of events that you should post each week. Graphic Artist
Graphic Artist needed to design flyers for LFAC events. You must have your own computer to create the flyers, and be able to send us a file with an electronic copy of the finished flyer to us through the internet. Also, you must be able to work with deadlines. Please contact Joan at

Administrative Assistant
Administrative Assistant needed to help with many administrative tasks, such a: updating website, typing and copying contracts, registering students for classes, updating mailing list, filing and other tasks. Photographer
Photographer needed to cover various events at LFAC. You must have your own camera, and be able to give LFAC the photos you have taken in a format that can be uploaded to our website. Videographer
Videographer to cover various events at LFAC. You must have your own video camera, and be able to give LFAC the videos you have taken in a format that can be uploaded to youtube. Media Relations Representative
One or more Media Relations Representative(s) are needed. Each Media Relations volunteer may choose to do some or all of the following:
- write and distribute press releases on LFAC events
- maintain and develop press contact list; seek out new contacts covering the arts, religion/spirituality, community/neighborhood, other related "beats"
- establish and maintain relationships with press contacts
- serve as primary point of contact for press questions (email, phone if possible)
- co-ordinate with marketing committee to develop press packets

Grant Writer
