Creative Cauldron with Sharon Bechtold
Friday, February 24, 2012, 07:00pm - 10:00pm

In the Celtic legend of Cerridwen, a Cauldron was used to create the magical potion of Awen (Inspiration and Wisdom). Please join internationally recognized artist and instructor Sharon Bechtold in a Creative Cauldron, where artmaking is used to simmer and cook the awareness of our own personal and collective abundance and power.

Discover the joy of creativity. Release stress through creative play. Learn to see life with a fresh perspective and discover the abundance that surrounds you daily. No previous art experience is required.

In Creative Cauldron, students complete a simple art project that focuses on the season. All materials and instruction are provided. This event is held once a month, and each month we work with different artistic media

  • All participants are asked to bring a “treasure or ingredient” to share. This can be as simple as a handful of buttons, a box of broken crayons, shells, toothpicks, or old CDs. These will be shared with all participants so that we can build our personal collection of creative treasures.
  • The session is structured as a creative “ritual” or “journey” facilitated by the presenter. There is an acknowledgement of spirit (left open to individual interpretation), and elements of nature. All work, play, learning, and final artwork is dedicated to the betterment of all beings.
  • All participants are encouraged to share experience and ideas.

Four things manifest from the Cauldron…

  1. The realization of your own unique creativity. How you see the world. How you use your body to accomplish your desires (body mechanics - using tools). How you use your mind for problem solving. All of these components make up your unique flavor that enhances the magical brew.
  2. Learning technique and exploring possibilities. How do the elements and principles of design work. The mechanics of using particular tools and materials. The vocabulary of visual art. This step gives you the tools and methods to express yourself and communicate successfully with others.
  3. The art making process allows you to engage in creative play.  Make things, experiment, realize the final product. The object is made and it is now possible to enrich your life or the life of another through gifting, admiring, or sharing.
  4. You realize abundance so great that the energy bursts forth and overflows into every encounter and every endeavor. Possibilities will manifest from the simplest encounters, and the world expands beyond your wildest dreams. You will never see the world around you in quite the same way.

The intangible benefits of Creative Cauldron are strength, vitality, enthusiasm, and the urge to share.  All of this grows from a soul that experiences unlimited abundance. When participants come together, the richness of community is shared.  Then we depart, energized, vital, and filled with wisdom to share with the world.

Rather than a studio or workplace to “get down to business", the Cauldron is a playground to exercise in. The Cauldron helps balance the seriousness of life with play and is not intended to replace formal art training or time in the studio.

For ages 18 and up. This class is held once a month on a Friday. Preregistration required.

This class is available for 3 NCBTMB credit hours.
